This Saturday my Mom and I threw a baby shower for my dear friends Nikki and Brian. Nikki had two requests, "no games" and that it be "coed." The games part was easy, however convincing males to turn up to a baby shower (no matter how much you cajole them with food, liquor, and promises that they wont have hold a diaper between their knees) was another matter.

To make sure the brave males that showed felt comfortable, my Mom and I were inspired by the Blueprint Modern Baby Shower theme. That article had some really great ideas on how to make a baby shower feel fresh and not too girly!

We had a real nice turn out of about 30 people, but unfortunately it rained.

Which meant that the deck was closed due to weather, and everyone had to squeeze in together... tightly together!

The plethora of cupcakes and champagne eased the tension though.

For my gift to the excited couple, I had been working on what I called "a big basket of love." The gift was intended to be a kinda "his and hers" present, with some of the contents intended for Nikki and others for Brian.

I was pleased though, to find Nikki just as excited about the coordinated baby accessories I made with her in mind....

... as she was with the Superhero themed onsies, I stenciled with Brian in mind.

It was real cute to see Brian picking them up one by one and saying, "oh it's Green Arrow, oh it's Batman, oh it's.... Martian Manhunter?" I had figured that they wouldn't know every symbol, so I had made tags for them all.

Personally, my favorites were Booster Gold and Blue Beetle (try finding those at Hot Topic or Spencer's) but their favortie was a little in joke we have:

I posted pictures of all the individual onsies on my Flickr account (just click the badge on the side of this blog) if anyone wants to see just what symbol belongs to who.

LLC helped me with the favors of dotted bags filled with meringues. These proved my sole part theory: "if you don't want to be left with left over favors, fill them with food!"

Nikki and Brain are so lucky!
1) to have a friend like you
2) to be getting a baby that they can train and make do stuff like chores.
Flawless! And tres chic!
Thanks, coming from ladies of such taste and distinction, that means a lot!
