Oh wait, I have readers that are not true believers, fangirls, or fanboys; I had better use simple language.
It all started with this toy I wanted. The figure(toy) in question was Booster Gold, who was the star of the best Justice League Unlimited episode ever: The Greatest Story Never Told.
Then there was the Zatanna figure, of course I had to have that one too.
Approximately thirty JLU toys later, I realized that I had a problem. The problem being that I still didn't have all the figures I *needed*.
I had received a wonderful present from Deuce of excess figures that helped fuel the obsession. However, Shawn isn't helping much either. Let Shawn out of my sights for two minutes and he is shopping. He knows that I'm frugal one in the family (not that you can tell from the toy collection) and often distracts me from concentrating on how much he is spending by buying things for me. You would think that it wouldn't work, but it does...
The problem is, he often doesn't know what I'm looking for and what I'm not. See common conversation...
Me: Hooty Mac! It's the Hal Jordan JLU figure! WOW oh WOW.
Shawn: Oh you wanted that? I saw that on clearance at Hot Topic for $1. I didn't think you would want it.
Me: erm....

I found a solution though. With a ribbon, a hole punch, and the pictures from the packaging, I made Shawn a wee spool of which ones I am looking for. (If you need instructions on how to make this, please find another blog to read)

Shawn wasn't as actually amused at this thing as I was.
However, think of the options? It doesn't just work with JLU figures. You could assemble a cheat sheet of anything you might be looking for, hand them out to your friends and family, and let them do the shopping for you! (Yea this is why Shawn wasn't amused)
I know that I once read an insane magazine article about how one should take photos of all their clothing, laminate them, and then string them up on key chain. This way you know what you have in your closet, and can see if that new sweater you wanted to buy, goes with anything else you own. This seems a bit too much for me.
However, handing one to my Mom for when she takes trips to Macy's sounds great...
