Heck, where I work it was really cold inside…
So cold in fact, that poor LLC was pretty much convinced she was a zombie worker person. Not the fun kind, the actual living dead kind!
This afforded me the perfect opportunity to make the Martha Stewart pocket warmers. Her recipe calls for pie crust weights to fill the little pockets of warmth. Who has that kind of money? Who has pie crust weights? Heck, I would use beans if I needed to weigh my crust, but I don’t even weigh them.

I simply took some felt and cut out squares with my handy pinking sheers.

I added a couple of stars for decoration. I thought that they would come out all “super” looking, but they look more Americana.

Here is where my frugal nature steps in; I filled them with rice and sewed them up. I had read that I wanted to stay away from synthetic materials, because they would catch fire when I microwaved them. No such luck…they just heat up.

I microwaved one last night and they come out radiating moist warmth and a cooked rice smell. Kinda odd, and revealing the appeal of the pie weights, but really I could make 50 of these for the price of one pie weight kit…
…but the price of warm hands? Priceless!

Those warmers hit the spot! Ingenious! You should market them as survival tools - warmth and later, sustenance! hehe
