Dork Punk Pins

I have this jar of glass pebbles. They are the kind that one can use for decorating fish tanks, or perhaps tacky wedding arrangements.

I bought them because
1) They were on sale
and
2) I had seen that you could make magnets and pins from them.

I thought that it would be fun to cut up some of my X-men comics for this project. With the exception of
Astonishing X-men, the only good thing about X-men comics at the moment is the art.

So, while watching
Everything Is Illuminated the other night I used my handy scalpel to cut out neat little images from my comics. Then I used some spray glue I had on hand to adhere the photos to the pebbles.

I let them sit over night, and yesterday I went to attach the pin backs to them, only to learn that the spray adhesive did not hold that well. The pictures fell off before I could even get the pin backs on.

Out of frustration, I used a dollop of hot glue on the photos, and was happy to see that it actually worked quiet well.

With another dollop of hot glue I attached the pin backs:

They came out cute, but are too tiny to take very clear photos of.

The best part about this craft is that with the hot glue gun short cut; I found out that I could make one in about two minutes!

The funniest thing about this craft is that I usually donate my comics to the local Veteran’s Hospital after I am done reading them. Now that they are filled with tiny circles where I removed images that appealed to me, I’m afraid that the Vets are going to think that
Big Brother is arbitrarily censoring the comics…

Ooh - you could take cut outs from the same picture, put them behind the glass, and reassemble them in order and glue them down on something to make a funky broken up mosaic!

o.0 THAT is a great idea...

Those would make smashing buttons on a funky vintage sweater or coat, too. Just hot glue a loop on the back instead of a pinback. great tip!
