There are times in a girl’s life, when she needs a new frock. The buying of the frock always coincides with an event. Maybe it’s her tenth birthday party, maybe it’s the prom, or maybe even her wedding. Regardless of the event, there will be a lot of time and thought put into what this frock looks like, and in actuality the message it puts out to those gazing upon her. Maybe the frock says she is uber-cool, sexy, sophisticated, or maybe it says that she is just a dork.

I went to Comic Con San Diego and I needed a new frock. Do not accuse me of cosplay; I just like to be appropriately dressed for any occasion. Unfortunately for me my tastes are not quite mainstream enough that I can easily locate something that expresses my fandom. They aren’t just selling Kitty Pryde t-shirts at Walmart these days. (Who am I kidding? We don't even have a Walmart near San Francisco and I do not believe that anyone commonly sold such a thing. Shame.)

Fortunately, I am adept in the internet craft meme of freezer paper stencils. Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Now the only question was, “which of my secret societies was I going to advertise on my back?” This takes careful consideration, because once you affiliate yourself with something, you are going to have to take the consequences. One should not wear a Hal Jordan sweatshirt, if they don’t want the Green Lantern Oath whispered in their ear, while waiting for an overpriced Frappuccino.

I decided that I would embrace a dual love of Mr. Grant Morrison and in particular his execution of Zatanna Zatara.

Are you asking yourself a logic question? Are you asking yourself, why the Green Lantern Oath would scare me, and yet I would welcome a Morrison fan? Well, there are two kinds of Morrison fans. There are the ones that simply enjoy his writing and perhaps the intriguing image he puts out. I’m down with that.

Then there are those that worship Morrison as their chaos magic guru and burn copies of the Matrix in their spare time. I enjoy those people too. A girl with yarn dread locks, taking notes on how she can get her own signet into the world doesn’t scare me. Because if she truly believe that, I totally support her, moreover if they are some lonely goth that is a little too much into a celebrity, I ponder how they are dreaming: this. Either way I would enjoy any interaction that resulted from my advertisment of interest. (But that oath just gives me the giggity chills.)

I got myself a good a blank canvas:

The back of course was logical and didn’t come out all that bad:

With a back comes a front, and I had to figure what I wanted on there. I didn’t want anything to predictable and I rather loved the notion that Morrison named Zee's rabbit “Spoo*.” So I created this little collage:

I was happy with the result before I went to the convention, but I was delighted with the result once I was standing in the DC booth...

There I was admiring the DC Direct figures, when I felt a hand land firm on my back and push me out of the way. Surprised, I looked up to see a woman dressed in a purple tux and heels strutting past me. She was following a man in a straw hat, who could only be the wonderful Paul Dini. Putting the tux and the hat together that made her none other than Dini’s very own Zatanna. Wonderful! It may not be common knowledge, but it is charming knowledge, that Dini married a real life Zatanna. Adorable.

But Misty, four words for you, “Don’t be a hater.” If you wanted a shirt, I would make one for you darling. No need to shove...

* if you say it backwards it’s more cute than gross.

Thank you for the links for those of us who are rather unsavvy.

Ironic:

The same night I spit this out, Shawn and I hit Isotope and James gifted us with a green lantern ring! I told him straight up that I wasn't going to say that oathe...
